What You’re Telling Yourself…

I Should Be Able To Do This On My Own….

That’s the lie you are telling yourself. You should be able to do this on your own. It’s easy to think, “This is a normal part of life, so I should be able to handle this on my own.” “It shows there is something wrong with me if I get help.” “Someone can’t really help me anyway, only I can take care of this.” “It’s not worth the effort to get help.” These are some of the things you are telling yourself about getting outside help.

I am in and around you everyday. I can’t help myself my ears listen in when I hear your story to another friend in a coffee shop or see your reactions as you are out and about. I see the tired look on your face. I hear about all that you have to manage and I hurt for you. I hear the uncertainty in your voice as you talk through what is happening. And it is a lot of hard stuff!

So I’m going to challenge you…to really ask yourself if it is time to get help. As great as it is to have the shoulder of a family member or friend to cry on. It’s time to get professional help for navigating the journey and managing all that you have on your plate.

How do I Know It’s Time?

Sometimes you just know…or someone in your life sees you and knows it’s time. But sometimes it’s hard to tell. Here are some of my thoughts about how you know it’s time…

1)If you find yourself getting in the same tailspin of a negative mindset either about someone else or beating yourself up.

2)If you want the future to be different but you keep finding yourself repeating the same things you don’t want to do.

3)If the emotions that you are feeling keep you from functioning like usual day to day

4)If you are just uncertain about the next step

5)If you want someone who has been there before to talk to

6)If you just plain feel the need for more support

I am here to tell you that outside support and help can make a big difference. Stepping out to get help is something that is very admirable. It is worth it. Not only does your overwhelm effect you, but it also effects everyone around. Your family feels the unrest you are experiencing and it effects them too.

Ways to Get Help

There is a lot of help out there. All different kinds of help because we are all individuals with very different needs.

Coaching

This is a proactive partnership. It is a way of taking what you are going through and  moving forward in a healthy way that reflects your values and purpose.  It is for people, that are not seeking treatment but need help navigating into the future. Check out my work with me page if you are interested in coaching with me. However, there are also many other coaches and Christian coaches out there in many different specialties. And often coaches work over the phone with people, which is very convenient and effective.

Counseling

This is especially geared toward people that are experiencing mental health struggles and for treating problems that are happening. Often medical insurance will have a portion of the benefit that covers counseling and there are many different specialties when it comes to counseling.
